Hospice is a concept of caring derived from
medieval times, symbolizing a place where
travelers, pilgrims and the sick, wounded or
dying could find rest and comfort. The con-
temporary hospice offers a comprehensive
program of care to patients and families
facing a life limiting illness. Hospice is
primarily a philosophy of care, not a specific
place of care.
-
Emphasizes palliative rather than
curative treatment
- Promotes quality rather than quantity
of life
- Affirms life and regards dying as a
normal process
- Relieves the physical, emotional and
spiritual pain allowing people to die
peacefully
- Provides personalized services, a
caring community and a support
network for families
- Focuses on providing comfort and
self determination, enabling patients
to participate in making decisions about
care at the end of their lives

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur have had a
long history of providing quality care with com-
passion. They are proud to introduce Notre Dame
Hospice into their organization of healthcare
services, which includes: assisted living, skilled
nursing and rehabilitation services.
