Notre Dame Hospice is honored to offer comfort, dignity, and support as patients and their families face death. One of the many ways this happens is through the variety of volunteer opportunities available to people of all ages and backgrounds who offer their free time to assist the Hospice Team in caring for patients and helping their families.
Hospice Volunteers give of their free time to assist in
Administrative duties
- Join a special event committee
- Create their own opportunity, based on their skills, and interests
Fund Raising
- Organize Concerts, Dinner Dances, and other Benefits
Public Relations
- Help with projects to raise awareness of Hospice
Providing Direct Care Services
Under the guidance and supervision of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team caring and providing support to the terminally ill and their families by:
- Being an active listener
- Working directly with patients and their families who are facing a terminal illness
- Visit and provide companionship
- Specific tasks, prepare meals, run errands, read or help with household chores
- Offering a supportive and caring presence to the patient and family
- Respite for the family
- Child Care, reading to the patient, playing cards/games
The Notre Dame Hospice Volunteer Program offers an extensive 32 hour educational program which provides the volunteer with an understanding of emotional, physical and spiritual stresses faced by the patients and their families.

The Notre Dame Hospice Volunteer Training program offers on going training, supervision, and support to ensure the success of everyone involved.
